The exorcist movie review:
Looking at this movie today, it's easy to see why it has been such a success at the time! Even today, the exorcist is a very frightening movie with scary and memorable scenes that you won't forget soon!
The story goes like this: A mother tries to uncover the reasons why her daughter is acting strangely and violently.
Since normal medicine doesn't seem to help, she turns to two priest who will perform an exorcism on the little girl, hoping to get rid of the demon inside her.
Even if this movie is considered like perhaps the most terrifying horror film of all time, be warned that the pace of this one is quite slow at times.
Some parts are a little too long in my opinion, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are boring or irrelevant.
Friedkin takes the time to set up the characters, something really important to make sure the viewer will understand their motivations.
Many scenes in "The exorcist" are shocking! If you don't like to see religion, sexuality, violence and profanity all mixed up in intense sequences, then this movie is definitely not for you!
It's even disturbing at times to see a 12 year old girl using dirty words like Regan does throughout the film.
And speaking of the little star of the movie, Linda Blair is absolutely fantastic in her role. This is an intense thriller with many adults themes mixed with a very physical performance!
The rest of the cast is also great, in particular Jason Miller who had never been in a movie before.
Creating a movie as terrifying as this one today is almost impossible for several reasons! First, no one would like to cast such a young actress for a role that is so demanding and immoral.
Also, today's CGI effects would probably ruin the whole thing. "The exorcist" is a dirty movie that looks genuine, authentic! The 70S feeling is also hard to reproduce today and I really think it does add something to the movie.
Overall, you should really see this film if you are a horror fan. Don't expect to see zombies or monsters. It's also not a slasher movie with a guy running around with a big knife ready to slice teenagers in pieces.
"The exorcist" is simply the story of a mother who wishes to liberate her daughter from the devil.
