Daybreakers movie review:

If you're not into the twilight trend movies regarding vampires, then maybe you could take a look at this one! After creating a first attempt with "Undead" that took horror fans by surprised, the Spierig brothers are back with their first major film so far!

We are in the year 2019. Humans are no longer the dominant species on earth! A terrible plague has transformed nearly 95% of human beings into vampires. Blessed with immortality, most of them don't have a problem with that!

However, human blood is dwindling and vampires are now facing a terrible faith too: no humans means no blood. And no blood means the extinction of vampires! Fortunately, Dr. Edward Dalton, a vampire and hematologist is now desperately working on creating an artificial alternative!

If you enjoy vampire movies, but don't like when rules or myth about them are changed or modify, then maybe you won't enjoy this one! Forget garlic or religious signs here, it's all about a high-tech world with cars, jobs, coffee shops and... vampires to run this place right!

Whether you enjoy your coffee with 5% or 20% human blood in it, you must accept this new reality to enjoy this movie! Finding a cure has never been so simple and easy to reproduce!

The cast of the movie is great, starting with established names like Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill and Willem Dafoe. The rest of the cast like Claudia Karvan (Audrey Bennett) or Michael Dorman (Frankie Dalton) are also doing a very good job!

The plot is somehow predictable, but the way to get there might reserve a few surprises along the way! You will have your typical Hollywood stereotypes in it (like the hero who shows up just when needed to kill one of the villains!), but overall, they don't damage the scenario too much!

Visually, the movie is also quite fun to look at. The vampire world is dark, grey and colorless. The outdoor scenes are colorful, brown, yellow and warmed! The score is subtle and well-integrated into the movie. Nothing too distracting or annoying!

If you are a fan of blood and gore, you'll also be delighted with some bloody scenes involving many gallons of the famous red substance! Some CGI effects are a bit lame (like the ones involving fire), but overall, most special effects are great and enjoyable to watch!

Don't expect to see a scary movie (besides the fact that you might jump out of your seat because of a bat or two), but rather an intelligent blockbuster movie (did I just wrote both words in the same sentence?) created by two young energetic directors!

A nice popcorn movie with plenty of action, gore and chills (and a little bit of brain) to keep you entertained for an hour and a half!
