Anaconda movie review:

You’ve seen alligators, rats, crocodiles, dinosaurs, insects, wolves, dogs, cats, birds and many other animals in horror movies. Now it’s time to get a taste of an Anaconda, one of the biggest snakes available on earth!

Yes, they can vary in sizes (and grow up to an impressive 6 meters in length!) and be quite big sometimes, but once again, Hollywood as created a monster out of a snake that doesn’t really like a human presence.

In the Amazon jungle, a group of documentary makers are held hostage by a hunter who is looking to capture the world most terrifying snake, the Anaconda. That’s about it for the plot of the movie!

The cast is not too bad considering that a couple of big names are present (Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson and Danny Trejo), but it’s not enough to help this movie from suffering from a bad script and poor dialogues.

The scenario is too simple and boring while the suspense is very lame and poorly-executed. I did not feel empathy for any of the characters and their faith was somehow too predictable to be enjoyable.

The special effects are also a big issue here. The CGI is not working well and clearly, creating water with a computer was not so easy in the late 90s than it is today! The snake itself is not too bad, but the effect isn’t overwhelming either.

The score of the movie is good without being too annoying, but it doesn’t save the movie from being a little bit boring. Even the fact that Jennifer Lopez is quite sexy in some scenes doesn’t help raising the rating of Anaconda!

Creating a movie involving boats, water and weird creatures is a great challenge (more than anything else in my opinion) and unfortunately, Anaconda is just another monster movie that doesn’t deliver the thrills that such a movie should deliver.

If you really enjoy snakes, then maybe you’ll have fun with this one. For the others, please pick up something else!
